You'll also need to know how to set the bearing adjusters on each side of the differential case. Set the left adjuster to allow approximate clearance between the drive gear (ring) and pinion gear. Tighten the right adjuster with sufficient force to seat the bearings in the cups to cause a slight drag in the bearings. Tap the bearing caps with a hammer as you do this to ensure the rollers seat in the cup properly. Also make sure you have enough clearance between the pad and drive gear when you do this. Each time you make an adjustement in backlash, you also have to recheck bearing preload. This is one of the nice things with the PW differential setup, no shims to adjust backlash/tooth contact. If you need pinion shims to get the right preload, a kit is available from Midwest Military for about $25 bucks. It will have all the different thickness shims. You'll probably need it if you have installed new pinion bearings. If you have installed new bearings, put your yoke on, tighten the nut to what ever max torque your torque wrench goes, and hit each end of the pinion with a hammer to seat the cups in the diff. housing. I hold a brass shaft against each end and strike it with a hammer. Torque setting for the yoke nut is 300 feet pounds. I adjust to my maximum wrench amount - 150 ft. lbs.
