Pete,

In general trucks are built with all the rims the same date, or close to it, like a 58 might have 3 57s and a 58. As you have a 54 and a 57 you might have different rims from different trucks and neither of those have anything to do with the year of your truck. Or maybe one of them in close, like you have a 54 or 55.

If you had a 58 you would have the 30-0-30 amps gauge, black plastic dash knobs, and a start position on your ignition switch. This would mean you would not have the floor pedal for starting the truck, or the hole where it would have been.

Also your gauges would have painted trim, not chrome. There are also different floor humps and floor pans 1955 and older, and 1956 and newer. The 1956 and newer trucks got an NP420 tranny.

There is also a frame part number under the drivers door of the cab, this is the part number shown in the parts book.

The tranny, transfercase, and a few other parts have numbers cast into them with the date they were made.

The gauges had a ink stamp put on them with the year they were made, if that is satill there it would help ID the year.

The heaters changed a few times, 56-57 use a model 75 heater, 58-59 and I think a bit later used one marked MOPAR 1791534. The 1955 and older trucks used a Model 65, 62, 61 or 36 depending on the year.

I am not sure what year it happened, but a lot of the internal screws went from being flathead to phillips sometime in the 50s.

Get the part number off of anything you can find it on, brackets, radiator, pedals, etc. I can look up those parts number and see if they were specific to one year, or at least a range of years to narrow this down.

Where were the tags mounted? Are there holes in the door jambs? Where are the holes, how many are there, and do they look like anything was ever mounted there?

Eric
