Each Truck has two basic weight ratings. The first is the GVWR which is the max weight weight of the truck fully loaded. The other is GCVWR wich is the total weight of the truck and any trailer attached to it. So if your truck has a GCVWR of 20,000 you can split that weight between the truck and the trailer as long as you do not exceed the weight rating of the truck or trailer.
