The big problem with driving across a flooded road or bridge is not knowing for sure if the road or bridge is still there. Sometimes it isn't. One other thing people don't take into account, especially with light vehicles like jeeps with big off-road tires, is that tires float. It's quite easy to lose traction when fording simple due to the flotation of the tires.

Except in late summer when the water's really low, I only cross my creek in the M35. I've never tried to push it because even though one of my trucks once had a fording kit on it and has all the gearbox breathers tied to the intake manifold, I don't know how good all the axle and shaft seals are any more and don't want to get water inside of things unless it's really an emergency.
