David, I have a 6 hp, 33 gallon Craftsmen which has been plenty big enough for all of my home/farm needs, until I started restoring a PW. It has even worked fine for everything with the restoration except sandblasting. If you plan to do any sandblasting, even a small blaster, you really need a size or two larger at least.
Other than that, my 6 hp, 110V is all I need.
