Centered differentials allow the use of more modern T cases that can be married to the NV-4500 and other current 5 speed over drive transmissions. For example; The NP-205 will marry to the Nv4500, however the NP-205 has a center output, thus the need to have a centered rear input. Even if you take the output from the center on a NP-200 (using a yoke that bolts to the brake drum) the T case will run quieter, cooler.
