pulling stuff apart is second nature . personaly i would pull the pan . If everything looked good i would stick an oil pressure guage on the block and run the thing . If the oil pressure was good and the engine did not smoke and the pan was clean I would not bother going any further . I have had fresh blocks go in 4000 miles that were built right and I have had trashers run for years . I am running a chev with mismatched heads and the bearings are locktighted in place . I have 60,000 miles on the darn piece of crap .

Some engines are never ment to be worked on . 2.7 duel over head cam dodge comes to mind . The cummins ? It is straight forward and sensably engineered. Working on it would be a pleasure.
