In 35 years in North Idaho I have tried all kinds of engine heaters. The easiest are the dipstick type or the magnetic type. There are also heaters made that press into the block in the place of a freeze plug. But I have found the best best one is the one that heats the water in the lower part of your engine's cooling system. Remember heat rises, and these types of heaters actually cause a circulation of the coolant in your truck, keeping the block warm, therefore the oil is warmed, and, as Mikey says, the heater will work sooner. Should be available at any good auto parts supply, or on ebay.
