Moose really really dislike dogs because dogs remind them of wolves and wolves are their most serious natural predator. Of course wolves also really really dislike dogs because dogs remind them of coyotes and coyotes are their most serious natural competitor. Coyotes, however, will happily hump your dog because, well, that's how coyotes and dogs are.
I happen to enjoy moose quite a lot. They're big and ornery and they have this "I'll move IF I feel like it" swagger that elk just don't have. I've never heard of one actually hurting a person, at least not in my area, though. But they sure will stand their ground and paw and snort, and they will definitely chase dogs. A smart dog will stay out of kicking range. A stupid ankle-biter dog will end up with a hoof through his ribs. The moose's weapon is his front legs, which he can kick straight out in front of him thanks to a very limber shoulder joint.
