What is the shift pattern on a 5 spd (540)? At the junk yard this weekend I got a shift knob that I found under a D500 schoolbus, and on the way home spotted a 58 or 60 D500 schoolbus that had this same shift knob in it with an Eaton 2spd rear end shifter as well.

The pattern is 2, 3, 4, & 5 in the standard 'H' pattern (5th back), 1st is to the left and forward and Reverse is to the right and forward. The pattern for the OD trans would swap 4th and 5th... right? In my 60 Service Manuel it shows a 540 to have two main shift forks... one for 2nd and 3rd... and the other for 4th and 5th. There are 2 smaller ones to the outside... one for 1st and the other for reverse. This makes sense... know all I need is the 540 direct to go with the knob. Also got a cool Dodge vacuum guage that matches the others in my TWPW

Gordon, thanks for all the info you have put out! Would you e-mail me so I can ad your e-mail to my list?

Gary
