I've got a 62 W100 PW. It has the 318 in it. I have replaced just abuot everything. When I bought the truck it had a holley 600 CFM carb on it. Many plates seperated it from the original 2 barrel intake. I got it to run pretty good but the gas mileage was real bad. I decided to change the intake over to a 4 barrel. I found the 4 barrel intake locally and changed it out. At the same time I rebuilt the old holley 4 barrel that was on it. Put it together and ended up working hard to set the timing and make it run right. I did it but it ran real rich. You know kind of stinky rich. After 8 weeks or so the idle started to dip and after I adjusted it, the next day it would drop again down to about 400 rpm. I tried again to adjust the timing but made things worse. I then looked at the distributor and it was shot so I changed it out thinking I would get better firing. It didn't make things better or worse. The problem I have now is that the truck won't run smooth. It backfires, and is real rough upon accelerating. I have replaced everything from the gas tank on to the carb. The plugs, plug wires, you name it. It's been changed. The carb has been rebuilt but it is an older carb. The truck sat a long time with gas in it that turned into varnish. Can this 318 handle a 4 barrel carb or am I dreaming? Should I look for a 2 barrel carb and change the intake back to the two barrel intake? Should I buy a new 4 barrel carb and adjust from there. I really am stuck. The truck is a real solid no rust vehicle and I have driven it when it has run great. I am in need of advice. Thanks in advance.
Respectfully,
JC
