I have had some luck brazing pot metal by using those
so called "aluminum welding" rods which they claim you
can use to "weld" aluminum using a propane torch. It's
really a brazing or hard solder because the base
aluminum doesn't melt. Anyway, they seem to be a
zinc/aluminum allow similar to pot metal, or in any
case they're compatible with it. You have to clean
the surface well and scrub the rod on the surface while
heating the surface. It's easy to make a nice-looking
deposit which isn't well attached if you don't rub it
enough. Still, it might be worth a try.
