Don't ditch the tank. Eastwood Co., and I am sure others, has gas tank resealing kits for about $35. It is easy to do in one day, preferrably sunny and warm. There are four steps. Metal wash to remove oils. Muriatic acid wash. Rust prevention treatment. acetone wash. and the sealer. The sunny warm day is good for evaporating the fluids between steps. Should seal the tank holes and seams for a long time.
