You'd be much better off to find a replacement spring. Springs aquire their load rating by heat tempering. Welding on the spring ruins the spring rating and the spring. You might get lucky and get get a spring that is "close" but more than likely you'll just have a peice of metal that looks like a spring but has no suspension value.
