A company that designs input shafts (or entire drivetrains) will have an entire team of engineers. They do not design multiple input shafts for the sheer glee when someone calls them to complain. Nor do they just absently mindedly forget to try to make the manufacturing process easier. Remember an engineer must consider many, many different options before settling on a design. (saftey, longevity, ease of manufactuer, versatility) There is a reason it was made that way. It seems no one compliments an engineer when the 60 year old truck he is driving is still functioning. It's only when they don't understand a single decision that they begin to point fingers. All I'm trying to say is that one might want to consider other reasons for the design besided idiocy.

Among my fellow students here at the University, there is not one whom I would consider an "idiot". Some hippis, some yuppies, some emos(?), and one redneck. But they are all in the top 10% in the nation, most higher.

That said, yes there are a few designs that are badly engineered. As a percentage...quite low.
