Some have different ranges of heat-to-resistance. Perhaps wronh year application? But, now that you think you have a good gauge, can you try it with the old sender? Or anydamnsender from another vehicle, that may not match but will tell you something?
Oh, most O.E. gauges need a IVR (instrument voltage regulator) the makes a pulsing, 5 volt average. They do NOT run on 12 volts.
