Due to both the rotation of the spiders and the translation of the centerline of the spiders(what happens when one side gear is moving and the other is not), the method you used will yield half the ratio. So double your finding of ~3 to get ~6. Eg, the truck has 5.83 r/p.
Differentials are a mathematical marvel...
