I won't argue your view on the subject Norm, but I have seen the other side of the coin. I have gone over the handlebars several times racing Motocross full out in third and fourth gear. Got right back up, and after finding the bike several hundred feet down the track, got back on and finished the race. I have also seen ATC and Quad riders take a 1st gear spill and then finish out their ride in an ambulance. Those things are so much heavier than a dirt bike and harder to control with body english while in the air. Land one on only one or two wheels, it can get hairy real fast. They seem to have an attitude and find genuine enjoyment in pouncing on and pounding a rider into the dirt after throwing them off. Kind of like the difference between riding a bull verses riding a saddle bronc. In any case, I am a firm believer that riding in the dirt is one of the best things a youngster can do to build self confidence, stamina, coordination, and to give them a genuine interest to help keep themselves away from the really dangerous, tempting, and life threatening things like....drugs.
