It could be a 3/4 diff housing. The later 3/4 WCs had the same diff housing with the 9 5/8 ring gear. Earlier 3/4 tons had a smaller diff in them 8+". They went for the strength of the larger gears with time. My WC53 has the larger diff in the rear but still has the smaller diff in the front. This is not too uncommon on some early 3/4 WCs. The reag and pinion for the smaller diff is the same as the 1/2 ton WCs. I believe that the ring carrier is different from the 1/2 ton WCs.

If the rear axle has a centered differential rather than the PW offset diff then you have a 3/4 ton axle. The 1/2 ton rear axle is quite different especially how the brakes and hub are attached. The larger diff 9 5/8" diff can be put in in place of the saller diff in the 3/4 ton WC axles. You just need to use 2 gaskets. You will either have to drill and tap the diff mounting hole in the 3/4 ton axle if it has the smaller studes in it. I have also seen were someone took thin bronze tubing with an inner diameter as same as the bolts and an outer diameter the same size as the housing holes and slipped them over the studs. This allowed them to use the smaller studs and not have to drill and tap the housing.
