Will,

Nice shop!

I also agree with using HO T8 tubes.

You may want to stop by your local electric supply or lighting distributor and ask them to have a design made from you plan and requirements. I did and had Simkar (fixture manufacturer) make a design for my woodworking/mechanic workshop.

Then I went on the Internet and found Simkar makes a software available called "Simkar Simply Indoor Lighting Layout Software" and dowloaded it.

I had specified a light intensity at the workplan of 1.5 w/ft2. It is high but our eye's sensitivity to light decreases with age.

I found that the design suggested by Simkar designers, once entered into the software and the results mapped, was not optimized at all and created deadspots all over the place! So much for profesionnals! So I played with different designs (even the ones suggested by the software) and came up with a layout using three rows by five columns for a total of 15 twin-tubes fixtures provided the best lighting.

Looking at your layout, and based on the design experience I gained with Simkar's software, I would have a tendency to rotate your fixtures 90 degrees. Get the software, enter your layout as planned and see the results, then try other possibilities, you may be surprized of the result.

Regards,

Mike
