Besides clean healthy proper rings and wheels just make sure that the gap in the ring is not closed and touching when correctly mounted. If it touches it is not safe and needs to be replaced with another that has a clear gap. Look at a bunch of mounted wheels and you will see what is the normal gap by the average. If it is too wide or touching replace the ring. Keep it simple.
