Only the military NDT's have a bead that is designed to retain the ring. This is covered in detail on the "Wheels and Tires" article on my web site.

I know of no tires of current design that have the bead retention feature. There are many off road tires that have a "rim protector" feature but that does not have any retention capability. Current design tires and rims have bead flange widths that do not have the same dimensions as the Budd rims on WC, M, and "flat fender" Dodge trucks. I'm not able to comment on "W" series Dodge trucks except to note that some early ones with slit flange ring rims came with military NDT's and later ones with split flange ring rims had "civilian" tires. Mike??? Norm???
