A while back we got a call from a Sheriff's dept in Northern Cal. We are the owners of record of some land that abuts a national forest. It seems that barriers were erected on the roads and signs posted. The S.O. found a rather large pot plantation on the property and wanted to know if their suspects had any legal right to be there.
That might be what you encountered. You may want to exercise a little caution when going past a barrier legal or otherwise. You may only get a citation, but you could get much worse.
