the number to remember are 14-7-5 those are the amounts in part for the proper manufacture of a little substance called black powder. There are a miraid of uses for such a compound for example making powder for a cannon or a rifle. I have also heard of people who have used that substance for primitve grenades. Those are really messy and not very accurate. I can't vouch for the entire accuracy of this info but I have heard that it works from some pretty reliable sources.
The subtance to use are(in order) saltpeter (from under bat poop seems to be the only thing that works) Charcoal for willow or oak and then water (good) or urine (better) or high acid wine (best) the cheap stuf from the box. All the dry parts need to be crushed into a powder and then boiled for 24 to 48 hours over a slow fire.
That's what I learned in history class from Cortez. If you don't remember him he's the guy who burnt his boats to inspire his men to work real hard towards conquering the New World from the savages. That forumla was in my history book I copied that one and memorized it and still have it commited to memory. Never used it but have heard that it works.
