Well i just looked at my tap drill chart and if you're tapping a 5/8-18 thread you should be using a 37/64 dia drill bit. If it's a 5/8-11, then it's a 17/32 tap drill. I'm sure you have the same chart also. Probably a mislabled drill bit.
