A while back, the USSC stated what that meant was that the people had to right to form "Citizen Militia's" if they felt the goverment had become unresponsive or oppresive, and take back conrol, NOT that the individual could walk around carrying. Remember when all those militia's started forming up? That's why.
That being said, gun control is a tricky issue. Back in the Bad Old Days of the Wild West, most people killed with guns weren't killed in the face to face duels like ya see in movies, but shot in the back.
People are people, no matter where ya go. There's good, bad and different. Some folk just don't have the sense that God gave a fish. Some are just pure evil. Would ya want them to carry?
The thing that law makers can't seem to understand, only the law abiding/good folk follow the laws of the land. If a bad guy wants a weapon (even a Stinger missile), he could get it.
Okay, now the Fed is behind many "Control" issues. Why? Local governments are easily corrupted (this is another issue on how & why the Fed got so big & powerful). It's an unfortunate part of human nature that we can ALL be bought off, it's just a matter of price.
Personally, I feel like the old NRA sayin, "It's better to have it and NOT need it, than to NEED it and not have it." When I used to carry, I became humble. I've seen many others whose chests would puff out and their testicals got bigger when they carried (even women). They would swagger instead of walk.
Again personally I feel that the governments interests in gun control is not so much that we stop shooting each other, but that we DON'T shoot them (politicians). Look at the Bradey Bill. The Nazi's were the 1st national government to use gun control. Ever read Hitler's "Mein Kampf"?
