I just had a bat in my cabin a couple days ago. It happens a couple times a year that they come in through the open hatch in the evening and then can't find their way out. I think they're kind of neat so I usually watch them fly back and forth for a while before I open a window and let them out. Maybe I'd better be more careful.
Speaking of rabies, I just read that in China they just killed 50,000 pet dogs due to a rabies scare. The dog-killers just walked through town and if they saw anybody walking a dog they beat it to death then and there, and then they went in at night and made noise to get all the dogs barking so they could find them and kill them.
