Too true!
And eopole always seem to put them the way they are in the picture, as opposed to how they are made to go, with the cores up and down. They are obviously quite strong in the proper orientation, but then if you load it unevenly, or it is bearing on a bolt or something they can crumble that way as well. Bottom line is, as you said, just dont use them!
