Up until about 2 years ago, a 250' roll of 12/2 romex house wire was $20 and a 10' stick of 1/2" type M copper pipe was $2.50. They've been those prices pretty much forever, or at least since the mid-1980s. Now the roll of wire is $100 and the pipe is $15! People talk about the price of gold going from $300 to $600/oz and silver from $4 to $11/oz, but copper jumped more than any other metal. I've got a big old building that needs to be totally re-wired and re-plumbed, and I sure wish I'd stocked up on pipe and wire 2 years ago.
