I know where you're coming from Chris. I always think about my Grandparents, and even my folks to some extent. Those that went through the depression in the '30s. We live in a "throw-away" society.

My Grandma would take small slivers of soap and mush them together to get a "bar" of soap. Why throw those away to BUY a new bar of soap?!? My grandpa had a bucket of bent nails that, when he needed some, he'd find the right sizes, hammer them straight and use them!! That generation didn't waste anything!! Things were meant to last, and expected to still be around, in 50-60-70 years. Now, we smash a fender, bend a bumper(plastic) and the insurance company gives us some dough, and the car goes to the crusher. Why pay to replace a fender and hood on a half-plastic car that, as you pointed out, won't be around years from now anyway?
