The private infrared deer-tracking company hired by the Town government just released its deer count for Shelter Island:
6,000 acres, 570 deer. That's one deer per 10.5 acres. We are overrun with the bastards.
I guess I am an ace, too. I have killed one with my wife's car (totalled the Volvo wagon), two with my CTD, (with the plow frame left on all summer), one with my work van ($2100 damage), and three when I was in my teens, with various old trucks.
Last winter, I killed one in my fenced-in back yard, by chasing it into the woods with my Colt Python. Before I could get off a decent shot, the idiot ran right smack into a two-foot diameter maple tree, breaking its neck.
When I dragged the carcass back into the driveway, the cat gave me a respectful stare. I guess he didn't think the boss could bring home big mousies like that. He seemed to be very impressed.
