I have cleaned the case and cleaned it some more . using a leaf feeler guage I find out where the case is missing the gasket or where it is leaking. Then out comes the silicone and I squeeze it in the seam. I use a putty knife and keep smearing it in. Then i let it set and drive it for awhile. If it continues to leak i clean it and have at it again. more often than not I get away with it.

Last time I spun the bearings in my block I dropped in a new crank and locktighted the mains in place. That was 50,000 miles ago. i did not even pull the block.
