I was following the thread below with interest, here is another question. The alternator I am using on the poly is a standard dodge 3 wire alternator. I bought it used off the Forum and it does work. It has the large wire marked bat, I know where that goes. Then there are 2 spades marked field. One has a short piece of light green wire and the other has 2 black wires. I have an external alternator regulator that came off the 61 donor truck. This also has a dark green wire whrere it was clipped off. I suppose the difference in greens is fading or just different specs from different years. Where do the 2 black wires go, or are they redundant in this application. Or, does this alternator have an internal regulator, and the external regulator is redundant? The d-500 wiring diagram shows the alternator with 2 wires, and the external regulator. I dont have a later diagram. Even though I had a 1 wire alternator on the old 230 (it went with the engine) and it is currently wired for that I dont mind rewiring for this alternator.
Thanks,
Tim
