We use to have GTE but bailed before they became Verizon. GTE was pathetic-our phone bill was normally $90/month for regular phone service with long distance.
We went with VoIP a couple of years ago and haven't looked back since. Even better-we pay $15/month for far better service than we had at $90/month.
If it's available I would suggest considering VoIP. I use Vonage and with the exception of a problem with the router once have had decent service.
