Hi Dana,
I held the starter up and measured the distance to move the solenoid, it is 1 1/2" to clear the power steering unit adjustment stud. Is that how far you moved yours? Did you just extend the loop on the solenoud plunger that goes around the engagement lever or dod you add a seperate piece? What did you do with the strap on the back, turn it under the solenoid? I agree this seems like the simplest route.
