I have a restored '56 Fargo Power Wagon. I would like to install an overdrive system for occasional highway use. I would also like to keep everything as original as possible. I have read Charlie Aaron's post in "The best of the Forum" I contacted both Advance Adaptors & Gear Vendors about their overdrives. I gave them the trans (NP420) and T.C. models (NP39360). I also described how the prop shaft from the trans angles down & to the passenger side to mate to the T.C. In both cases, I spoke to their "technical experts". I got the feeling that they didn't have a clue, and neither has "gotten back to me".
Does anyone have any experience with any overdrives that would fit this application? It would ony be used in 2 wheel high. Does that mean that a system could be installed behind the T.C., and not affect the front axle prop shaft? Also, some of these systems appear to be electric. Since this is an original 6 volt with positive ground, can a conversion be made to the overdrive that will work on the reduced voltage. The trial & error method is not a good one for me, as these systems are between $1,500 & $2,500 US, but that's more like $4,000-$5,000 Canadian.
