The 1/2 ton wheels were not intended for larger tires but I have had 900X16 tires on a set for at least 10 years and they haven't blown off yet. I have seen alot of 1/2 tons with them on. Because it's a narrow rim you wouldn't want to go any larger than 900x16 anyway because it puts too much crown (rounds the face) on the tire. When mounting any split wheel if you don't have a safety cage to inflate them in, use a tow chain end with a grab hook to go through the hole in the wheel and around the tire with a little slack then hook it into a loop. Do this in at least two and best three or four places around the assembly. Inflate slowly watching the ring to make sure it seats in it's groove correctly. If it doesn't don't continue unless it can be corrected. Rust scale in this area can interfere. If it's not caught in the groove correctly and holds during inflation, they can come off later when there is no chain on for safety. Like when you are putting it onto the truck. An overdose of common sense is in order here. If you don't comprehend the process or are nervous about doing it find a truck tire shop or farm tire store that's been around awhile. They usually have experienced people. Good luck
