Thanks for the information, Charlie. I'm trying to determine without taking it out whether my 1968 NP 435D4 transmission has a 1-1/8" 10 spline input shaft like the older NP 420's. If it does, I can adopt a AA Chevy Ranger overdrive to fit in my W300. That's my Hope.

A Hollander Interchange manual seems to say the input shaft for a 1968 NP 435D4 transmission used in a 1968 W300 was 1-3/8" dia. 10 spline, whereas the NP 435 transmissions used in the 1968 W100 & W200 were 1-1/8" 10 spline. But other incorrect information in that Hollander Manual concerning 1968 W300 Dodges makes me skeptical about the accuracy of the statement on the input shaft diameter.

1968 was a transitional year and the information for those trucks is confusing, if not garbled. I can find the part numbers, but the part descriptions under those numbers don't mention the input shaft diameter or spline count.

In my Carryall, I have a NP 420 4 speed transmission installed behind a 1979 360 V-8. I believe all NP 420's had a 1-1/8 dia. 10 spline input shaft. I can assume either: (1) the place that installed the 360 engine changed the clutch disc from a 1"-23 center to 1-1/8"-10 center, or (2) the input shaft in the NP 420 was changed to 1"-23. I'll probably have to pull that tranny out to see what actually was done.

Did the NP 435 input shaft change to 1"-23 when the 318LA engine was released? Or earlier? Or later?
