My first choice when I was looking for a PW was a pick up bed. I've just always liked the step side beds. Easier to access from the side and better looking too. Since these trucks were often shipped sans bed as a cab and chassis, there are more without pickup beds than with. My '52 has a flat bed on it and looks pretty decent. It had been a dump truck at one time and still has the mounts for the hydraulics and the swivels in back for the bed. You can get new flat beds at any truck equipment supplier. Mine is a 9 footer and looks well balanced. Plenty of used ones in the salvage yards too.
