Questions on NP 420/435, and PTOs????????????

I have noticed that the input shaft diameter on a NP435 (64 W300)
is considerably larger than the NP435 trans from a 68 D300, is this difference common, and do the W100/200s have the larger or smaller input shaft? Also, will a PTO from a 435 fit a 420?
