318 ENGINE

I have a 1961 318 "A" wide block ploly engine.
I am considering having the unit remanufactured, but have been advised that this is a bad choice, as this engine is out of production. I has told I should purchase a 1966 or later wide block 318 "LA" engine.
Do any of you PW experts know if this advice I should heed?
