I've been reading lot's of comments about how the original
drum brakes are inadequate and thought I'd put my two-bits worth
in. I've checked out Heli-tool's conversion at the website, and
there's no question in my mind, that if you have the money, they're
the way to go, but...........I've got drums on my'55 Civilian PW,
I drive it (carefully) at highway speeds 55-60 and I've never had
any trouble stopping it in a hurry. I think it's important to learn
how to adjust the drum brakes and to adjust them often. It's easy
enough to do. My emergency brake is in good shape and I also keep
it well-adjusted.
