LPG is currently more stable economically than oil and other fuels. It also burns cleaner. It's not without maintenance issues but they are minimal. I presume Natural Gas is not available in your location. If it is, compare the relative yield in BTU's. If NG may eventually be available make sure the furnace you buy can be converted. It's usually just a matter of an orifice and sometimes a different regulator. Make sure you lease the LPG tank. If you buy the tank you're responsible for maintanace, static testing and a host of other duties.
Please handle the old furnace with care. It's likely to have Asbestos in or on it and that is nasty stuff.
