A while back when I proposed towing with a Durango, there was a lot of discussion about the suitability of this tow vehicle.

I did tow my brothers M-37 from Lansing MI to Fairfield IA without any difficutly. In fact, it seemed a very good tow truck. I realize however that the real test is not easy towing but emergencies etc. Still my towing load was within the Chrysler towing limits for the Durango. I also have a heavy-duty trailer with a Cl 4 hitch with weight distribution bars.

I had a Prodigy installed on the Durango. This applies the brakes on the trailer progressively or in proportion to the Durango's brakes. This worked very well, much better than previous controllers I have had. Makes for nice none jerky stops...you hardly know the trailer is there.

The truck has a hemi and got 10-13 mpg depending mostly on how fast we went. At 55, it got about 13, at 65 it dropped to 10.

Interestingly, towing just the car trailer (no truck on board) got 19 mpg...just a bit less than what it gets without a trailer. This part was the 400 miles back and forth from Traverse City to my brothers place in Lansing...so it was a pretty good test.

So it all worked pretty well.
