I've never seen the old Mopar engines get an air bubble but I have seen many chevys and the new magnum mopar engines do it. On my 360 Magnum I ran it with the cap off and kept squeezing the top radiator hose and it kinda burped itself. Squeezing the hose forces pressure thru the system. Make sure your lower radiator hose isnt collapsed.
The temp sender unit will only send heat signal if it has water. So I would think maybe you got enough water to register temperature. You may not have an air bubble.
