remove ground connection from battery
remove hot lead from starter
remove linkage pin @ firewall
remove two bolts holding the starter motor
to the bell housing (I used a 1/2 moon wrench
that i borrowed from an old time mechanic to
get the top bolt loose)
when it is out actuate the lever and see if
the bendix unit moves could be gummed up
if it moves freely then
use a set of jumper cables give it juice and
operate the lever and see what happens
