I also use the C Clamp as Steve suggests. Here is a picture that was on the web. Like Steve, I use a large nut that will allow the head of the pin to pass through. I dont see any need for the spring. The leather or rubber washer prevents maring the top of the hinge. Once in a while I have also found it necessary to heat the hinge while clampling down on the C Clamp.
They always come out.
