The answer you received on the last forum sounds correct. You are most likely referring to the shift handle which engages the clutch to drive the drum. You must have the PTO engaged to drive the winch. You must know if your PTO is mounted on the transfer case or on the transmission. If it is on the transfer case, you must put the transfer case in neutral, engage the PTO, and use your transmission gears to drive the winch. If it is on the transmimssion, you must put the transmission in neutral, and engage the transmission to drive the winch. You can find out how things work by experimenting, but MAKE SURE the winch drum is NOT engaged while you experiment. Try www.bradenwinch.com for assistance on their website. JH
