The city surplus truck I bought a year ago still has gum from the emblems on the doors. Best thing I've found is acetone. It didn't hurt the paint- on this truck. YMMV, try it on some... overspray? underside?
Goof-Offf, etc, hardly softened it. Maybe 10 years in the Tucson sun kicked it off?
Try some of your bride's fingernail polish remover, it's scented acetone.
