Air Lockers

I've looked around in a few other forums, but I have yet to find a satisfactory answer to a question thats been plaguing me for a while now. I have always seen air lockers operate like this. Differential is unlocked. Air pressure is build up, then they lock. The main problem I have with that is the possibility of failure and thus possibly leaving you stranded. Is there a good reason that no one designs an air locker that is locked fulltime unless there is air pressure? If you just started your truck, it would only take a second or two to unlock the axels and set you on your way. That way if you were ever to lose air pressure, you would be fully locked and could get out of a bad situation. Maybe I'm not thinking hard enough.

PS. I posted a few forums back looking for a PW, and I just confirmed a buy this week. Its a 1951 and just a few hours from home. Thanks for all your help and advice last time. Maybe you'll set me straight again.
